MISSION TRIP BLOG
Day 6
Hey everybody, today is day 6 and i am dragging but in a good way. We completed
our job today painting, roofing and flooring - you guys would be amazed at the
different jobs and skills our guys mastered this week, and the amount of grace
and patience they've displayed to one another. Even though the week was
difficult and at times we were down, they pulled through with flying colors and
even taught me a thing or two about God's Grace. There were days I felt like
quitting and instead of me encouraging them, they encouraged me. I actually got
the chance to get to know Carol and Carey on a more intimate level and found out
things about myself that I need to change and some things that I was proud of
myself for. We have the best youth group that I've ever been associated with.
There were at least six different churches there and by the end of the week
every group was drawn to our kids, searching for how we were able to laugh and
play together and not bite each other's head off. We were the smallest group
there, but everyone seemed to know us. I would travel anywhere with any one of
them at any time. I truly am tired and I'm ready to be home, but I thank God for
this opportunity to be with your young adults and I thank you for trusting me
with them. Leonard Lane
Day
5
This whole
experience so far has been really cool. At the work site we are almost finished.
The biggest job we have left is to put in laminate flooring on the inside of the
house. I don't know how far we are on the painting but on the roof we just need
to finish shingling. After working today we went to Wal-Mart to get some paint
rollers. Then we went to Cold Stone Creamery and we dominated some ice cream.
Then we went to this Christian bookstore and everybody got some really cool
crosses, and Vince got this amazing thing for his mom. Then we found some
hardcore Jesus gangster rap and listened to it. It was so funny that we broke
our kneecaps off because we laughed so hard. THE END – Vincent Lane
DAY 4
So far this mission trip has been a really great experience
for us. The family, we are working for has been just awesome
and they are very nice and helpful as well as appreciative.
She bought Gatorade and popsicles for the whole group to keep
us cool with the hot weather. It's nice to be helping someone
so kind. Today was our day off, we decided to go to Triple
Falls again which was tons of fun last year! Once again Shawn
and I climbed High Falls, though this year Andrew and Vince
joined along while the girls slid down one of the natural
water slides. We forgot how hard of a hike it was to get there
though, we were quickly reminded. After that we made lunches,
and they were good. Then we went to pick up Miss Marjorie,
the woman whom we helped last year, and took her to the Deli
again because of how good the food is there. I (Sam) bought
a grilled cheese, while Shawn bought a hot dog and a grilled
cheese and a milkshake and he took my fries, jeez. After that
we brought her back to her home which still looks awesome
from our paint job last year. Once inside we found out that
she had gotten gifts for all of us! Emma got an awesome pair
of shorts as did I and Shawn. We also got banana bread that
she hand-made for us, tomorrow we will taste it and find out
how good it is.
Stay classy FaithPoint, this is Sam and Shawn signing out.
DAY 3
hellllllo from asheville north carolina! day three has been
quite an adventure. The roommates are .. getting better
I suppose. As is the food. Megan, Emma, Carey,
Dan(staff), and I all went hardcore on the hard wood floors.
Megan and I finished the youngest daughters room, who has
the asthmama. We kicked butt, to be honest. Although
the other groups lack of team work/any work at all causes
a lot of frustration, it has made our youth groups close bond
become even more apparent and appreciated. As the
newest member of the group this has been an amazing experience
to grow with the others. Seeing the impact we are
having on the family is pretty amazing too. The mother
who is a very independent woman has kept a guard up as to
needing help but you can see the excitement and appreciation
in her eyes. One of the most frustrating things
Megan and I have come across is the poor structure
of the house. It amazed us how someone could build
a house that carelessly knowing a family will be living
in it. Today we noticed there was no lock on the little
ten year old girls bed room window. There are so many
other things that have blown our minds but
I guess that's just part of this experience. :) The
weather was sweeeeet today. Nice & cool.
Today after dinner our group was FORCED to do dishes.
The plus was that we used a really big and legit dish
washer thing. Too bad is was spaghetti night.
:( Thanks everyone for the support and prayers and for
anyone who is so utterly bored with they're lives that
they find themselves reading this.
Lots of love, tay dowell

spirit. we are so proud of our group, we all got along so well, which
really
pleased us all. if we had to rate it, we would get a A+ for teamwork.

DAY 1
We made good time on the highway and arrived here by 4PM. We all agree
Shoney's on Father's Day was not a great choice for lunch but....I had
the henhouse with one rooster on the way down (all females except for
one
lone guy). Three of our boys kindly took turns in the hotseat.
I'm told there are a lot of improvements to the building where we stay.
Our room has new hardwood floors and windows, but it's still kinda hot.
We visited Marjory tonight and she remembered everyone, even those
who didn't make it back this year. She asked about Kelsey, Scott and
Alice.
She was happy and excited to see us and we're going to take her to
lunch Wednesday and then bring her for the closing ceremony on Friday.
She
was so
welcoming and the kids said it was like visiting another person, the
changes that had taken place in her physically, how she kept her home
and her attitude. She was so welcoming and she even has a cat now that
she
feeds and cares for as she can.
We had a great first day. Tomorrow we meet our new family; a single
mother with three children. She's from the Lambee Native American
tribe, the
9th largest. We're going to put on a new roof, do new hardwood flooring
so her asthmatic daughter can get healthy and paint the exterior of the
house.
If we have time we're going to paint the interior and put up some
borders. We're all excited about meeting them and starting work. We
will also
work with another group, Faith UMC from Boyton Beach, FL (I thought it
was a
made up name until today...who knew). Anyway, thanks for all your
suppherort and prayers. You all would be so proud of our youth. They
are truly some of God's most AMAZING creations...Leonard and Cary
aren't bad either. You'll hear from someone
else about our second day. Praying for all of you at home, for a safe
week, and uneventful trip back home and enriched lives both here in North
Carolina and those souls going home.
